Google map and directions
Rain or shine, walk with us and learn the amazing history of the heritage site known as the former Guelph Correctional Centre (or Ontario Reformatory). Hear about the plans for the restoration of its waterways and lands and of the engagement of various community, University and business groups that support repurposing the site for a future leading environmental science centre. The Yorklands Green Hub focus will be on research, education, innovation and recreation related to urban agriculture, renewable energies and creeks and wetlands.
While walking, enjoy the stone walls, trees, fields, paths, creeks and ponds as you learn about Yorklands Green Hub and its mobile learning lab (tiny school) that will be in use this autumn. Join us in innovating, educating and collaborating to open green doors to the future.
This walk will be entirely OUTDOORS, please dress for the weather! A map of the tour can be found at yorklandsgreenhub.ca.
There is NO PARKING on the site. Please walk, cycle, or take the bus. Bus #4 stops at the main gates of the correctional centre every 30 minutes. We will meet just inside the main gates.
No dogs please, service dogs excepted.
Is this event accessible? Half of the walk will be on the paved driveway but some will be on a path through a grassy field path that is less smooth.
* In case of seriously inclement weather, the event will be cancelled.
